Prairie Chicken Chalk Art Festival is an exciting event designed to celebrate the creativity of the Kewanee and surrounding area residents and promote the importance of public art. Throughout the weekend of July 14 - 15, 2017, professional and amateur artists will create colorful art on a concrete canvas sure to catch your eye.

2016 Recap

2016 was the first year for the Prairie Chicken Chalk Art Festival. The Go-Kart track was a perfect location for experienced artists and newbies to create their masterpieces.

My 2016 effort was the first anamorphic piece capable of being fully photographed on a smartphone “panoramic.” It was a freehand, extemporaneous, 3D, artistic endeavor. The smartphone’s changing angles and sweeping motion challenged my art creation - Shaun Hays

An Invitation from Shaun Hays, Chalk Art Champ!

July 14 & 15, 2017: The Prairie Chicken Chalk Art Festival is a great family event in northwestern Illinois, located in the friendly community of Kewanee.  This year, my piece will have an artistic interaction component which will leave everyone in awe. It will be a must-share via all social media outlets with friends and family.  The artwork will feature fascinating detail and display a colorful, realistic fantasy.  I look forward to meeting all participants and viewing the artistic talent competing for this year’s top prize! See you in July!

Shaun Hays, Chicago Chalk Art Champ, will return for 2017 and continue to dazzle you with his 3D illusionary chalk artistry. Watch as he crafts a free-hand drawing (unusual for chalk artists) on the concrete in an anamorphic art style.  Live in a moment of timeless beauty! The expression on your face will make him smile!

Kewanee participant:

"The reason I chose to be a part of the prairie chicken festival was because I wanted to be able to do what I love doing but also be a part of the community and I get to see other artists do their work as well.   The most interesting part was talking on a live radio show which is really cool.  Everyone participating was extremely supportive and kind.   I would definitely participate again.”
